Basel – Sport is our passion
As a football enthusiastic city and international venue for major sporting events, Basel is already looking forward to the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025! The St. Jakob-Park, designed by the world-famous Basel architects Herzog & de Meuron, is the largest football stadium in Switzerland and one of the most beautiful stadiums in Europe. Located in the border triangle of Switzerland, Germany and France, Basel is easily accessible from everywhere thanks to the binational EuroAirport and excellent connections to the European rail and motorway network. As the «Cultural Capital of Switzerland», Basel not only has a lot to offer in terms of sport, but also culturally: In July, the Basel Tattoo brings the best bands from all over the world to Basel. Another special experience is swimming in the Rhine through the centre of Basel’s picturesque old town, which attracts thousands of visitors every year. Welcome to Basel!
St. Jakob-Park is Switzerland’s largest football stadium and the home ground of FC Basel. It is important in both architectural and sporting terms. Built by local architects Herzog & de Meuron and opened in 2001, it encompasses a shopping centre and old people’s home as well as the football arena with over 38’000 seats. For the star architects, it was an excellent preparation for similar projects such as the Arena in Munich and Beijing’s National Stadium.
